Prison Law

As a sub-department to Crime, we offer advice and assistance in a specialist department to deal with prisoners rights cases. This may encompass the following

  • Adjudications
  • Parole applicants
  • Recategorisation
  • DLP’s and MLP’s
  • Judicial Review of the prison and Home office
  • Sentence Calculation (days back)
  • Other complaints regarding treatment and detention.
  • Problems that fall within the remit of our Family and Civil departments.

There may be some cross over between our Crime and Civil departments as what may start out just as a complaint may turn into something more, and a referral between departments will be made should Civil proceedings follow. We also hold a Contract for suing public authorities.

You may find the following link helpful if you need to find out more about a particular prison if a member of your family has been detained. Click here to check out the prison service website.

The Parole board’s web site may also be of assistance to you Click here to check out the Parole Board Web Site.

We cover all prisons within a two hour radius of our offices, and can provide advice by correspondence to prisoners detained further away.

Prisoners also often contact us to ask to assist with appeal and CCRC matters (see CCRC section)

If you are a prisoner looking for assistance please either write giving as much detail as you can of the problems that you face addressed to our Prison Law department, or telephone our office indicating you are a prisoner, giving your location, prison number and details of your problem
